Joined AMCON INC. as a New Graduate in 2024

  • DepartmentR&D Department, Design and Development Unit Water and Environmental Machinery Division

After joining the company, Mr. S. N. learned through training how products are connected across design, manufacturing, and on-site operations. He is now a member of the R&D Department, involved in a wide range of tasks from new product concepts to design and testing. We spoke with him about the appeal of his work and his growth as he takes on the challenge of creating new products through continual trial and error.

Joined with a Passion for Creating Moving Machinery and Contributing to Society

Q. Please tell us why you joined AMCON INC.

I have always enjoyed manufacturing and looked primarily at companies in the machinery and construction fields, placing importance on working in an environment where I could take pride in my work.
I became interested in AMCON INC. because it offered the opportunity to be involved in creating moving machinery and because I felt I could contribute to society through products that support sewerage infrastructure. I was attracted by the idea of supporting people’s lives through products, which led me to join the company.

Understanding the ‘Big Picture’ of Manufacturing Through Training

Q. Please tell us about any concerns you had before joining and any surprises after joining.

Because the transition from student to working professional is such a major change, I was worried about whether I would be able to adapt well to the new environment.
After joining, I found that there was a training program that allowed me to experience various departments such as Design, Manufacturing, and Technical Service. This helped me understand the entire process of how products are made and used in the field.Because of that experience, it was easier to understand the work and relationships of other departments after being assigned to my position. I also already knew what kinds of people worked in each department, which helped me start my work smoothly.
When I first joined, I had imagined that I would mainly be drawing designs as a designer. However, I found that R&D work, where I can personally conduct experiments and verification while working through trial and error, suited me better. As a result, I requested a position in R&D and was assigned to my current department.

Work That Covers Everything from Product Concepts to Testing

Q. Please tell us about your current work and role.

I am responsible for a wide range of tasks, from developing concepts for new products to design and planning and conducting experiments. I work on multiple themes simultaneously, each at a different stage of development.
I often visit sites and carry out verification while actually operating equipment. As a result, my work involves not only desk work but also many opportunities to think while working hands-on.
What makes this work interesting is the challenge of manufacturing itself. Turning ideas into reality requires constant trial and error, and I find great satisfaction in overcoming difficult hurdles such as performance validation.
I think it is unique to AMCON INC. that employees can be involved in such a broad range of work from their very first year. Being involved from planning to commercialization and ultimately delivering products to customers allows me to directly receive customer feedback, which is highly rewarding.

Feeling My Growth with Support from Those Around Me

Q. Please tell us how you have grown since joining the company.

From a technical perspective, I have gained knowledge about sewage treatment and wastewater treatment. Although these are not aspects of daily life that people usually see, understanding how water is treated has been a significant change for me.
In addition, my work has given me more opportunities to explain things in my own words to people both inside and outside the company, and I have become more comfortable speaking in front of others. At first I found it challenging, but by gaining experience with the support of those around me, I have gradually become more confident.

An Environment That Respects Individuality While Encouraging Discussion

Q. Please tell us about the atmosphere in your department.

The R&D Department includes many members with diverse backgrounds, and each person approaches work with their own ideas. While opinions sometimes differ, it is an environment where people can discuss issues openly and then move forward together.
It is easy to ask questions when I do not understand something, and it is also easy to express opinions regardless of age or position. I think one of the defining features of this department is the opportunity to work while being exposed to a variety of perspectives.

Building a System That Creates Value as a Team

Q. Please tell us about your future goals.

My goal is to create a new flagship product that will follow the sludge dewatering press.
I want to continue taking on challenges with the goal of experiencing the satisfaction of seeing a product that began as my own idea become a commercially successful product released to the market.
