T. G. is responsible for Indonesia, Malaysia, and Bangladesh in the International Sales Department. He develops business plans for each market and is involved in a wide range of activities, from sales to after-sales service. We spoke with him about the appeal of his work and his goals for the future after joining AMCON INC. to focus on international sales.
Changing Jobs to Focus on International Sales
Q. Why did you join AMCON INC.?
In my previous role, I worked in international sales for a medical device-related company. However, I also handled a wide range of responsibilities, including shipping imported products, inventory management, technical support, and export arrangements, and I felt frustrated that I could not devote enough time to international sales. What ultimately led me to join AMCON INC. was the opportunity to focus on international sales. While I was not specifically committed to the water treatment industry, I wanted to be involved in bringing uniquely Japanese products to overseas markets. Having worked with niche medical devices, I also felt an affinity for the highly specialized field of water treatment.
Building Business Through Personal Initiative
Q. What is your current role?
I develop market strategies for each country and manage everything from selecting exhibitions and developing customers to planning and implementing initiatives. In addition to sales activities, I am also involved in after-sales service, including investigating issues, selecting spare parts, and preparing quotations. Having the opportunity to think about and drive the business in each market myself is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Differences in Values and Culture Make International Sales Fascinating
Q. What do you find interesting and challenging about international sales?
In international sales, I often visit end users together with distributors and have met more people than I can count over the past few years. Discussions with people from different cultures, religions, and value systems are always stimulating and never boring. On the other hand, because we communicate in English as a second language, misunderstandings can sometimes occur. In those situations, I believe it is important to take the time to communicate thoroughly and deepen mutual understanding.
Another rewarding aspect is the level of autonomy I have in deciding who to work with and how to approach the market. Being able to develop new markets through trial and error in a fast-paced environment is one of the true attractions of international sales. When a proposal becomes reality and delivers measurable results, I feel a strong sense of accomplishment.
Unexpected Events Are Part of the Appeal
Q. Do you have a memorable story from an overseas business trip?
I have plenty of stories involving hotels. I have experienced double bookings and even situations where I was told that foreigners could not stay at a hotel despite having a reservation. Unexpected problems outside of work seem to happen quite often. Thanks to those experiences, I have gained a strange confidence that most problems can somehow be solved. Experiences like these are unique to international sales.
I Want to Help Establish a Local Subsidiary in Indonesia
Q. What are your goals for the future?
In the future, I plan to relocate to Indonesia and continue developing business locally. My first goal is to establish a solid business foundation and work toward creating a local subsidiary. Indonesia is a major market with a population of approximately 300 million people. Looking further ahead, I hope to build a system that enables local production and contributes to the further expansion of AMCON INC.'s international business.
