Water Quality Analysis

What is the difference between the Water Works Law and the Act for Maintenance of Sanitation in Buildings?

The tap water (including hot water) is subject to water quality standards set by the Water Works Law.
The tap water supplied from a water purification plant meets its standards, but the water quality may change during the process of being conveyed to the building or within the building’s facilities. For this purpose, the water collected from the faucet (the water we come in contact with) needs to be tested.
The water quality standards of the Act for Maintenance of Sanitation in Buildings are established by the standard values of the Water Works Law.
For the frequency of water quality tests, the Water Works Law takes precedence for exclusive water supply systems, while the Act for Maintenance of Sanitation in Buildings for small-scale private water supply systems.

What items of water quality are tested by the Act for Maintenance of Sanitation in Buildings?

The water quality test as required by the Act for Maintenance of Sanitation in Buildings applies to drinking water and water for miscellaneous use (reclaimed water). Drinking water includes tap water, well water, and hot water supply. Click here to contact us for more detailed information on inspection items.

How often is water quality tested under the Act for Maintenance of Sanitation in Buildings?

The frequency of water quality tests required by the Act for Maintenance of Sanitation in Buildings depends on the type of water. Basically, the test frequency is every 6 months for drinking water, and every 2 months for water for miscellaneous use (reclaimed water). Click here to contact us for detailed information on inspection items and frequency.

Sanitary Condition Verification Inspection

What is the difference between a wipe test and a stamp test?

The wipe test is suitable for testing of uneven surfaces and involves wiping off the area to be tested with a cotton swab. Inspections can be performed from a single location. The stamp test is suitable for testing of flat surfaces, and the food stamp is pressed directly onto the area to be tested. You can test 5 locations with one set.

What does a wipe test reveal?

Wipe the area to be examined with a cotton swab. It is then soaked in the diluent to make a sample solution. Culture bacteria on a medium suitable for bacteria to be tested and then check the presence or absence of the bacteria and its quantity. For more information on the types of bacteria to be tested, please click here to contact us.

What does a stamp test reveal?

The number of bacteria is measured more directly than with a wipe test because the bacteria are collected by applying the medium to the area to be tested. The medium’s components will adhere to the test area, so cleaning is necessary after collection. For more information on the types of bacteria to be tested, please click here to contact us.
